It is also known for 11th and 13th century cathedrals and monuments with historic importance which makes it a big tourist destination.

The three geographical areas in Abruzzo are chiefly Marsica, Appenino and Sub-Appenino. Out of these one-third of the region is named as the national park or the regional park areas. The main national parks of Abruzzo include Gran Sasso national park, Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise national park, National park of majella, Sirente Velno Regional Park. All these national parks have highly proved to attract tourist from Italy itself and from around the world. Trees of birch, Oak and Beech are found in plenty in these parks. Animals like brown bear, wolves, eagles, large wild cats are also seen here. These national parks have proved to be a safe and nurturing place for the species which are becoming extinct. Very few national parks and national regions are now left in this world which are becoming heaven for animals which are going to face extinction in few years.
