Think of pizza and Italy is what you think of instantly. Think of fine-cut jewels, its got to be Italy. Abruzzo! Italy yet again! Out of the twenty Italian regions, Abruzzo is one of them. It lies along the Adriatic sea. The Abruzzo region, lying in southern Italy is hilly and has mountains. It has beautiful landscapes of high peeks (more than two thousand metres). Here you will not find sandy delights along the Adriatic, but rocky coasts which makes this place different from other regions lying along the sea. L'Aquila is the capital of this region. Move to the city of Chieti and you will find another distinct and famous museum. This one called the national museum of antiquities houses important art and literature from Italian and roman culture.

Another place to visit is Ortona, which is famous for its monuments and vast history. It is located on the Chieti coast. Tremiti islands are another tourist spot in the region of Abruzzo. The crystal clear water, sparkling waves and the uncontaminated nature plus the fascinating history makes it a delight for the tourists. You can visit this place only by boat(from Pescara and Tremoli) and should not be missed at any costs.

Also the beautiful fortress here will transport you back to the time of the ancient history. Roccascalegna is a small town situated in Abruzzo region. Famous for the famous castle, this place lies between the mountains and the sea. This castle has been associated with a brutal event.
The Bomba Lake is another beautiful attraction of this region. One can reach this place via the Sangro valley and it just two kilometres away from the village. The ride till here is mesmerizing. This region of south Italy is truly a tourist's delight for the sea, the castles, the history and the present that blends perfectly.
